My name is Noelani Noir. Join me–a nontraditional premed student–on my magickal journey to a medical school near Salem, Massachusetts. “There will be blood!”
🔬 The Medical Student 📚
I’m a 30-year-old undergrad majoring in Biomedical Science with a minor in Religious Studies. I’m also a part-time research assistant to a vascular neurologist who is conducting stroke research. I started down this path rather late due to battling serious health problems in my early twenties. I’ve spent much of my life on the patient-end of healthcare, which fostered a reverence for the field and the human body. Now, I can’t imagine spending the rest of my life doing anything other than studying and practicing medicine. In my “Medica Macabre” series, I share cases of medical oddities, strange research experiments, and bizarre treatments.
🌛 The Alchemical Witch 🌜
Yes, I am also a practicing witch. My practice is eclectic, incorporating various aspects of many spiritual belief-systems and traditions. In my “Witch Doctor” series, I document the process and results of magickal workings I perform. Each ritual or spell is treated as a science experiment and analyzed as such, just like the alchemists of old.
🎃 The Halloween Enthusiast 💀
Halloween and the autumn season bring me so much joy. I never feel more alive than when communally celebrating death. Ever since I was a child, Halloween has been my favorite holiday. It’s my happy place. Whenever I need to build the feeling of pure bliss, I visualize a crisp autumn dusk, with the crunch of leaves under my feet. The wind swirls together the aroma of pumpkin spice, juicy apple, and the faint trail of extinguished firewood. There are always trick-or-treaters frolicking around me, running up and down the ghastly-decorated neighborhood, giggling and shrieking. My Halloweenist series includes the imagery of this idyllic scene along with all things Halloween. Join me as I embark on all kinds of spooky endeavors.
